What is CEREC?
CEREC® stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” This process eliminates the need for a temporary crown, instead producing a reliable and functional dental crown in just one appointment.
At the average dental office, a “goopy” impression of the mouth is taken during your first visit and mailed to a dental lab while you go home with a temporary crown. Oftentimes, the temporary can fall off and can be uncomfortable. A few weeks later, another appointment is required to remove the temporary crown and cement the permanent one in place.
Now, the process is completely different, and only one appointment is required! In under two hours, Dr. Hill can have you seeing a new and improved smile that works great and looks beautiful.
How Does CEREC Work?
Using this new technology, a digital impression is taken with a handheld, camera-tipped device. Dr. Hill has extensive training utilizing CEREC technology, so she will take a video of the tooth that is being restored.
Advanced software will make a 3D model of the tooth and surrounding teeth. Utilizing an expansive database as well as the profile of the surrounding and opposing teeth, Dr. Hill will determine the best shape for the new crown. Next, she will use CAD/CAM technology to design and fine-tune the proposed tooth before matching the new crown color to your existing enamel– a step that ensures a beautiful aesthetic. Finally, the crown will be cemented or bonded to the natural tooth.
