Root Canal Treatment Falmouth

Unlocking a More Comfortable Smile

Extreme pain, dental abscesses, or ongoing sensitivity often require root canal therapy. These problems can occur when bacteria enter the nerve canal of the tooth and cause intense pain. When a root canal procedure is completed, the innermost part of the tooth is gently cleansed to remove the harmful bacteria.

Despite the “terrible” or “scary” reputation of root canals, this procedure is considered safe and can be almost painless with the help of modern numbing techniques and technology. At Hill Dental Wellness, we have the latest CBCT 3D technology to provide more customized and effective treatment for our patients. For those with dental anxiety or who are interested, Dr. Hill can also provide different types of sedation to ensure comfort and relaxation throughout the procedure. Please contact Hill Dental Wellness today if you have any immediate pain or questions.

Do I Need Root Canal Treatment?

Few signs and symptoms can indicate a root canal may be required. Please call our office immediately if you have any of the following:

  • A toothache that just won’t go away – there is pain when chewing and applying pressure to a particular tooth
  • Prolonged and lingering cold and hot sensitivity
  • A “pimple-like” bubble is present on the gum tissue near a tooth
  • A tooth has started to discolor and turn gray or a darker shade than the adjacent teeth
  • Any swelling or pain that is keeping you awake at night

It is important to know that occasionally, teeth can have advanced infections or abscesses with absolutely NO symptoms present. These tend to be found in routine X-rays taken at your regular checkups.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

Dr. Hill will start by numbing the tooth and its surrounding area to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. She will use a special instrument to access the nerve canal before removing the unhealthy nerve tissue and cleaning out the infectious bacteria.

She will then place a biocompatible material in the canal(s) called gutta percha to seal the tooth. A custom-designed restoration will be placed over the natural tooth to protect it. This is usually a dental crown.

How Will I Feel After Root Canal Treatment?

It is common and normal to experience some sensitivity after this procedure. These symptoms are usually managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Symptoms rarely last for more than a week or two.

How Much Do Root Canals Cost?

The cost of a root canal in Falmouth can vary depending on many factors. Anterior (front) teeth that need root canals cost less than treating a back molar. The complexity and the severity of the tooth in question will also affect the cost of the procedure. Dr. Hill and our team will be sure to provide you with a cost estimate once we establish your treatment plan. Our number one priority is to restore your dental health and get you out of pain!

Should I Save My Tooth or Extract It?

There are many advantages to saving a tooth with root canal therapy rather than extracting it. First, it preserves your natural tooth structure, which means that you should not need a dental bridge or implant in that area. Root canals are quicker and less invasive than extractions, and there is less downtime after a root canal, so most people can go right back to their normal routine.
